Knowledge about the physical world is called science, while theoretical knowledge is known as humanities science.

The major methods used for testing the validity of scientific theories are experiment and observation. Scientific methodologies aim to discover patterns, laws of nature and the ability of an organism to reproduce itself. They also try to explain the natural world using different methods. Theory can be studied using natural languages such as algebra, geometry, calculus, etc., but they are not directly accessible to the natural world. Examples of theories in the sciences are: observations of the behavior of living things, general laws of physics and physical phenomena, or discoveries made by modern scientists using various techniques.

The discipline of applied science has developed several terms to describe the various technological processes that have taken place throughout the twentieth century. According to William Schatzberg in his landmark article Applied Science: An Introduction, the term “technological” was first used in connection with the first industrial revolution. As technology developed throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, new areas of practical application began to open up and specific techniques were developed for each discipline. This relationship became even more pronounced with the development of computers and the Industrial revolution, which brought a revolution in scientific research and discoveries. According to Schatzberg, Applied technology can be separated into two main categories: qualitative and quantitative. He further explained that there exists a distinction between the technological evaluation of a product or process as a qualitative term and the use of quantitative measurement as a quantitative discipline.

Quantitative assessment refers to the use of quantitative statistical data in order to evaluate the quality of technological systems. This was a part of the schatzberg’s original definition of technology which was expanded upon by J. S. Eagleworthy and F. M. Salmon in their famous textbook, Applied Technologies. Schatzberg distinguished quantitative evaluation from the use of qualitative analysis, arguing that qualitative methods are inherently more dynamic and creative than are quantitative measurements. In fact, he believed that the art of technology was nothing more than the application of the theories of classical mechanics to the particular context of twentieth century society.

According to Schatzberg, there are two broad schools of thoughts about how to classify technologies. The first category is the material means view, which he described as “the belief that all technological systems are characterized by the application of human labor.” The second category is the creative power view, which he described as “the faith in the possibility of new technological systems.” According to the material means school of thought, all technological systems are characterized by the use of matter as a means of execution; while the creative power school believes that all technological systems can be generated from artistic inspiration. The key concepts of both views are the belief that technological systems can be produced from technological sources using materials such as ideas, science, machines, and physical processes not available to people in previous generations.

The modern application of the term gadget is found in computer jargon, as a synonym for computer chip.

The term gadget can also be used in business contexts, though generally when referring to specific pieces of hardware devices. The hypothesis suggests that the observed phenomena may be the result of the laws of some supreme intelligence or a special force.

Apart from this, there are a number of experimental techniques, for instance ‘chemistry-density’ theory, ‘epistolarum resonance’ theory, ‘gravitation’ theory etc. These techniques help in testing the hypotheses of a theory. When this happens, the scientists can get a firm proof about some scientific principle or theory. This helps in improving the techniques and procedures, so that a better quality of experiments can be carried out and new scientific methods can be devised for obtaining exact results.

To put it briefly, science deals with facts as well as explanations about those facts. For example, if you observe a fact about nature, then you can try to explain it by using various scientific theories. You do not need to use experiment to convince your audience, rather the explanation should be sufficient enough to hold their interest and curiosity. In fact, in science, no fact can be proven or disproved. A fact can only be tested or observed. For instance, if scientists find a planet rotating very fast, they will not be able to prove or disprove the theory, rather they can only find out whether it exists or not.

These kinds of devices are used mainly to enjoy the full picture and sound quality of the television.

The fourth kind of a gadget that I would like to tell you about is a pair of glasses. Glasses are one of the most fashionable glasses that most people wear. People who wear glasses find it difficult to read newspapers or magazines, or to watch TV. That’s why they need a pair of glasses that enables them to see clearly.

Science is an organized scientific enterprise which builds and directs knowledge in the shape of predictions and testable predictions about the external world. It includes a systematic approach to data collection, organization and analysis. There is a clear division between the fields of science. They are Physical Science which includes all physical sciences like astronomy, physics, chemistry, etc., Life Science including microbiology, zoology, ethology, immunology, physiology, medical science and environmental science. Biochemistry is the scientific study of chemical compounds. Astrophysics covers space science and space exploration.

SCIENCE

In science, there is an attempt to define, describe, evaluate, explain and predict phenomena. There are two main methods used to make this happen i.e. The observational method and the experimental method. The observational method is used to look for and record evidence whereas the experimental method is used to manipulate, control and measure data to test a theory or to look for patterns.

Most scientists divide the process of science into three categories: The observation process or observation, the hypothesis process or hypothesis, and the scientific process or evaluation. For the observational process, a scientist observations a natural occurrence or an event and makes an hypothesis as to what caused that event. Once the hypothesis is verified experiment is done to find out if it is false. If it is false the scientist can come up with another hypothesis which will ultimately result in another observation. The cycle of hypothesis, observation, and testing is known as the scientific process.

To test a hypothesis scientists make use of various procedures. The best example of these procedures is the Scientific Method. This process was formulated by German Physicist Galileo in 1610. He formulated a way to test a hypothesis by taking the simple step of asking a few important questions. He did not expect that his hypothesis would be proved right away, but he was able to show that his idea was correct after putting many years into it.

Some people criticize the Scientific Method as being too time consuming. On the other hand, those who support the use of Science as a rigorous discipline say that such criticisms are aimed at discouraging real scientists from pursuing their pursuit of knowledge to the end. The best way for Science to proceed is for it to be independent, unhampered by any outside influence. It must be able to withstand scrutiny, and in doing so, it will eventually prove the validity of its own claims. Without this process there would be no verification of scientific truth.

The third type of science which scientists employ to prove their hypotheses is known as statistical analysis. Unlike the previous two types, statistical analysis makes use of empirical data and mathematical calculations to determine relationships among variables. It is the process by which scientists come to firm conclusions about a particular issue or question. To put it simply, all the figures and facts that science has revealed through the course of its investigation can be seen as a chain starting from the hypothesis which was first postulated, and continuing through to the final result.

In the light of progress, technology and other people’s curiosity, science has found an ally in the endeavor to unearth the laws of the universe. This has made scientists to devise all possible methods that can measure the various parameters of the universe to provide useful insights. As a result, the world as we know it has been enriched with innumerable concepts and discoveries.

The study of science is dealt with by the various sciences. There are four such sciences in particular that are commonly known to man. These are natural science, physics, biology and chemistry. In all, there are over 100 sub-disciplines of science that are distinguished by their own unique contributions. This is in addition to the more conventional fields of science and engineering, which are examples of the analytic category of techne. Although there has been an increase in the use of the term technology in the twenty-first century, the definition has been somewhat distorted by the growth of applied science and engineering disciplines, which many philosophers decried as being nothing more than forms of technology in and of themselves. The debate continues despite the fact that there are some basic similarities between religion and science. In fact, many have said that it is religion which has forced the scientific method on to the surface. It was religion that started the long discussion about what science is. The debate is still going on. There are certain fundamental definitions for science, which will help us to demystify the whole issue.

We have some three fundamental concepts for a demystification of science. Fundamental concepts are used in order to derive science from its natural or physical roots. Physical sciences are those that are intimately associated with the physical world. The theories of science in this case are derived by making use of the physical world. The other two fundamental concepts of science are rationalism and fideism.

Reliability of scientific information is one of the fundamental concepts. If a theory is not consistent with the evidence, then it can be rejected as worthless. It has been found that knowledge gained by making use of systematic study is practically irrelevant. The other group of sciences, which are empirical in nature, do not have a problem with this. Empirical studies can be used as references for establishing whether general laws are universally applicable. General laws like the Law of Gravity, conservation of energy and momentum, and the Law of Conservation of Mass, are universally accepted since they have been experimentally confirmed.

These include applied physics, which is the study of scientific methods used in specific scientific disciplines; cognitive science, which study the mind and its processes; biological science, which studies the functions, structure and organization of living things; environmental science, which studies the relationships between human activities and environment; and social science, which studies society and culture. A major part of the curriculum of a University includes theses, which are student works of the preceding two fields. Other topics may also be introduced as part of the courses for various concentrations within science.
